Feastro The Rolling Bistro

After seeing an episode on Eat St. about Feastro the Rolling Bistro (and finding out that their new location is here in Vancouver ^__^), I wanted to try it! The truck is located on Thurlow and West Cordova and is quite easy to spot the big purple truck. They have a wide range of items on their menu that you can choose from: crab cakes, a variety of tacos, ceviche, prawns, oysters, anything seafood, they probably have. And everything they use are fresh and local ingredients. On Eat St., they featured the crab and shrimp cake and it was one of the items I really wanted to try.

During one of the sunny days we had here, my boyfriend and a friend ventured out to Feastro. I knew exactly what I wanted and ordered the Crab & Shrimp Cake ($13). My friend ordered the same thing and my boyfriend had a Pulled Pork Taco ($7) and a Fresh Halibut Taco ($8). One thing to mention is that this is one of the few food trucks that will take debit/credit cards! It's great because I usually don't carry cash with me often.

Crab & Shrimp Cake – cayenne, coriander, sweet bell peppers, on Henry Reed organic greens, with truck made smoked tomato cocktail sauce.

This crab cake was HUGE! Larger than the size of my fist. This was served on a bed of organic greens with tortilla chips garnished on top. This crab cake did not disappoint! There were plenty of crab, chunks of shrimp and overall, very little filler.

I had a bit of trouble finishing this entire plate of food and had about 1/4 of crab cake left over.

Pulled Pork Taco
Slow smoked, sweet rub, Henry Reed organic greens, guacamole, refried beans, hand cut salsa.

Again, the portions are huge! This entire plate is one pulled pork taco! My boyfriend thought that the pork was fairly average and that the tortilla chips on the top added a nice crunch to the taco.

Fresh Halibut Taco
Crispy chickpea battered fresh halibut, tomato/anise chutney with Henry Reed organic greens, tikka masala yogurt, hand cut salsa

My boyfriend thought this taco was just okay. He didn't dislike it, but it wasn't as good as he thought it would be. He felt that the halibut and ingredients didn't come together and that the sauce was a bit overwhelming. And for $8, he thought that this taco can do with a bit more fish.

Overall Impressions: Feastro the Rolling Bistro offers a wide selection of seafood and their ingredients they use are always fresh. Also, their portions they serve are huge! So if you have some time on a nice day, visit this food truck, get some seafood and sit around to enjoy the weather and food.
