Romer's Burger Bar

I had a friend who was back in Vancouver for a visit and he really really wanted a burger because he hasn't had a good burger since he left for China. I've seen Romer's Burger Bar on West 4th and was curious to try it. The steak house, Pinky's, used to be at the location that Romer's is at currently. I've never gotten a chance to try Pinky's before they closed all their locations =( I'm guessing it wasn't that good if both their locations closed.

At Romer's Burger, they serve all natural Angus beef, Fraser Valley pork, turkey, free-range chicken or wild salmon all grilled on a flat-top, served on a brioche bun with pepperoncinis and olives on the side. When ordering at Romer's, the price you see is just the price of the burger. You will need to order your sides separately. They have a variety of sides and salads that you can choose from. One side of fries is enough for 2 people to share if you also order a side salad.

Magic Mushroom Burger with Organic Roasted Baby Beets Salad

We ordered a couple of beers while we contemplated what to eat. I'm typically not really a beer drinker because I don't really like the taste of beer and never gotten used to it. But the raspberry beer they had sounded interesting and I wanted to try it: Red Racer Raspberry Wheat Ale. When I drank it, it tasted more like beer with a hint of raspberry. My friend, the beer drinker, had some and he said all he can taste is the raspberry!

We decided to order:
  • Magic Mushroom Burger with Organic Baby Beets Salad
  • Righteous Rib Burger with Vine Ripen Tomato Salad
  • Garlic Fries

Magic Mushroom Burger
All-natural beef, chopped BC portobellos, arugula, herb and garlic Boursin cheese, caramelized onion

I really liked this burger! There were plenty of mushrooms, the meat was moist and wasn't dry and the brioche bun was soft and tasty.

Organic Roasted Baby Beets Salad
Sweet onion, arugula, local goat cheese

I really like beets and this salad was really good. If you like beets, then you should get this salad.

Righteous Rib Burger
All-natural beef, applewood bacon, braised short ribs, sweet onions, Gorgonzola garlic sauce, fresh thyme leaves.

My friend really liked the taste of this burger but he didn't like how as he was eating it, the meat got hard to eat as it dried out really quick. But overall, he liked his burger.

Garlic Fries

Mmmm fries. The fries were crispy and fresh. But I wished there were a bit more garlic in the fries. Didn't really taste the garlic. I was kind of hoping for the garlic fries that you can get at the PNE where they just load on the garlic.

And... one more picture!

Overall Impressions: Romer's Burger Bar makes one yummy burger. I really liked my burger and would like to try all the other ones that they have on their menu and also the poutine there! They even have additional items that you can put on your burger such as foie gras pate and braised short ribs. I'll definitely go back to Romer's when I have a burger craving.

  1. It's funny how those with palates trained for beer will find our Raspberry Wheat Ale somewhat overpowering while those who don't can't taste it enough!

What we will say is thank you for taking the time to try our beer even if you're not a fan of beer. We may not have convinced you to join the beer bandwagon but we're impressed you gave it a shot.

    Cheers and good eating!
