Khai Thai

Wanting to go for dinner somewhere close to where we were, we settled on getting some thai food from Khai Thai.  We'd both been there for lunch before and liked what we had there, but never for dinner.  The restaurant is nice and home-y looking and the servers were quite friendly.

We started with some vegetable spring rolls:

Spring Roll - Vegetables & glass noodles
served with plum sauce

These were quite good, nice and crispy, but not as good as the ones at Urban Thai in Yaletown.

For our mains we had Pad Eggplant and Pad Thai with some steamed rice.

Pad Eggplant - Spicy stir fried pork with fresh
chili, bamboo shoot, basil leaves, and pepper

Pad Thai - Spicy fried rice noodle with basil
leaves and tofu

With both dishes, we had our choice of chicken, beef, pork, and tofu.  We decided on pork with the eggplant as that's how we've always had it, and tofu with the pad thai as I was in the mood for deep fried tofu.  The pad eggplant was quite good, not greasy, but again, not as good as Urban Thai's version.  The pad thai was excellent; the tofu was fried just right, and the sauce wasn't too sweet.

Overall Impressions:  Khai Thai provides pretty good thai food that's a bit less greasy than some of the other Thai restaurants downtown.  Definitely a solid choice if you're in the area and in the mood for Thai.
