Cattle Cafe (Burnaby)

I was meeting up a friend in Burnaby for lunch and we decided to go to the Cattle Cafe which was located in the space where Death By Chocolate used to be. Cattle Cafe and Cattle Hot Pot (Richmond) are sister restaurants and owned by the same person. Cattle Cafe is a Hong Kong Style cafe and is known for their noodle selection. There is a large menu with a variety of items where you can customize what type of soup noodles you want to eat. And the portions of the noodles here are huge!

But unfortunately, I wasn't too hungry and my friend isn't much of a noodle person. So we didn't order any soup noodles. I would like to go back and try that one day.

For lunch, I just had a luncheon meat & egg sandwich and chicken wings. I have this strange liking to Spam and egg sandwiches... My boyfriend never understood that. Maybe it's because I grew up eating it and it's comforting and reminds me of my childhood. My friend had the chicken & rice and also the chicken wings.

My sandwich also came with a drink, so I had a hot milk tea.

The One Restaurant

After an afternoon of baking at a friend's apartment, my boyfriend and I left to go get dinner. We decided to go to The One restaurant because it was close-by and my friend suggested we go try the food there.

When we arrived, I noticed that for their entrance, they had sliding/automatic doors! I've never seen anything like this for a restaurant! Imagine if those doors broke down, then no one can get in! There was a group of people ahead of us, but we were seated relatively quick and given no menus. It took us a few minutes to flag down a waitress for some menus. After looking through the menu, we decided to order a Cool Mixed Dry Bean Curd to start, I had the Eggplant and Minced Pork with Rice special and my boyfriend had the Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets with Rice.

When the Cool Mixed Dry Bean Curd dish arrived, it looked like someone just took a handful of the bean curd and just dumped it onto the plate without a care. Quite messy looking, but it tasted fine. The neatest presentation I've seen of this dish was at Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle Restaurant.

Sushi Oyama

For my friend's surprise engagement dinner, we all decided to go to Sushi Oyama in Burnaby for some Japanese food. The restaurant is located on Kingsway (near Metrowtown) and is in some sort of house. I believe it used to be a house, then funeral home, Korean restaurant and then Japanese restaurant.

The restaurant is usually busy and reservations are usually a good idea. My friend made a reservation for 9 people and the great thing is that they do not charge gratuity for large groups! When I arrived, I was greeted quickly and was brought to the table. The table was located upstairs! I didn't know they had an upstairs area. The table was located in a small room and had just enough room to fit 9 people comfortably. Since it was upstairs, there was also a phone inside the room where we could use to get a hold of a waitress. But we didn't use the phone since the waitress kept coming up and checking on us. Great service!

Now onto the food!
