G-Men / Ramen Izakaya @ NanChuu 南廚

After a long walk around Richmond and late into the evening, we were hungry and decided to check out NanChuu. I've been to G-Men before and remembering the ramen being very good. When it closed, I was a bit sad. It was just recently that I found out that they have re-opened and merged with the tiny izakaya, NanChuu.

NanChuu is a located on Alexandra Road and it is easy it miss it if you're just driving by! It's a small restaurant and there's not a lot of space. We were seated relatively quick as we were eating later.

NanChuu Restaurant

The menu here has mostly ramen, but also some izakaya items if you're in an izakaya mood. I wanted ramen that night, so I flipped the menu over to take a look at the ramen. There is quite a bit of selection of ramen and also toppings you can add to your noodles. They say on their menu that their broth is cooked for 9 hours to extract the taste from the pork bones!

Instructions posted on how to enjoy ramen :)

After much looking, I Love Hotdogs ordered a BBQ Pork Tonkotsu Shio Ramen and I ordered the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen with Butter Corn. We also ordered a side of Gyoza to go with the meal.

And also ordered some beer too! Asahi

BBQ Tonkotsu Shio Ramen
Authentic rich pork soup (TONKOTSU) with thick noodle seasoned with homemade SHIO (Salt) flavor.

Tonkotsu Miso Ramen with Butter Corn
Authentic rich pork soup (TONKOTSU) with thick noodle seasoned with homemade MISO flavor.

The noodles were cooked al dente and just right. They had a nice firm bite to them. The soup for both the ramens were creamy and very flavourful. I Love Hotdogs said that it's the second best Shio broth he has had (The first one being the Shio broth at Santouka). I really enjoyed the Miso broth and was happy that they also gave me a slotted spoon so I could scoop up all the corn from my bowl! It's always hard to get every kernel of corn sometimes!

Gyoza
The gyoza was better than average. The skin was thin and fried up perfectly.

Overall Impressions
- Very flavourful and rich broth.
- Noodles cooked to a perfect al dente.
- Quick service.
- Great option for ramen in Richmond.
